The American comedian was born as James Douglas Muir Leno on 28 April 1950 in New Rochelle, New York. His dad named Angelo (1910–1994), was an insurance salesman who was born in New York, to immigrants from Flumeri, Italy. Likewise, Jay’s homemaker mother, Catherine (née Muir; 1911–1993), was born in Greenock, Scotland, and came to the United States at age 11. 

Jay went to Andover High School and completed his bachelor’s degree in speech therapy from Emerson College.

Apart from his great TV and film works, the TV personality has the most supporting wife as Mavis Leno. The couple exchanged their wedding vows on 30 November 1980 but mutually agreed that they won’t have any kids. She is an American philanthropist and feminist born on 5 September 1946 in San Francisco, California.

Together the pair donated $100,000 to the Feminist Majority Foundation’s campaign to stop gender apartheid in Afghanistan in 2001. The sole purpose of the charitable work was to educate the public regarding the plight of women in Afghanistan under Taliban rule.
