In his debut game for the Nets on 18 October 2017, he made 30 points with five assists in a 140–131 loss to the Indiana Pacers. However, his knee injury occurred and kept him outside the court until early 2018. Three months later, he made his first career triple-double on 23 March 2018 during Lakers and Toronto Raptors game. With his majestic playing records, the Nets in their 2018/2019 season offered him an undisclosed contract around $7.02 million.

Later, on 6 February 2020, he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves along with Jacob Evans and Omari Spellman for Andrew Wiggins. On 10 February, he debuted for Minnesota in a 137–126 loss to the Toronto Raptors, where he recorded 22 points and five assists.
