The actor was born as Joshua Ilan Gad on 23 February 1981 in Hollywood, Florida, to parents, Sam (Shmuel) Gad and Susan. By profession, his mother, Susan, works as a real estate agent while his dad is a Jewish immigrant from Afghanistan. His parents parted ways, and his mother got married again with a man named Stanford Schwartz, who is an investment advisor. He has two brothers Jeff and Jason Gadd, including a stepbrother and sister from her mother’s relationship with Stanford.
