An unfortunate injury near the eye left Canadian ice hockey defenseman Johnny Boychuk reeling for help in the hockey ground. He left the Tuesday night bout against the Montreal Canadiens after he got hit in the eyelid with a stake blade.

Johnny Boychuk is a Canadian ice hockey defenseman who plays for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League (NHL). He previously played for the Colorado Avalanche and Boston Bruins.

The 36-years-of-old ice hockey player was born with the name John Paul Boychuk on 19 January 1984. He hails from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and is among the two sons of his parents, John Boychuk and Audrey Boychuk. Speaking more about his family, Johnny has a brother named David Boychuk.

Standing tall at a height of 6 feet and 2 inches (1.88 meters), Johnny was passionate about ice hockey from his young age. Eventually, the future superstar decided to break into the professional field featuring in the minor ice hockey league. He played in the 1997 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament from Edmonton.

Johnny’s NHL Contract, Injury

He got drafted 61st overall in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche. Prior to that, he played with the Western Hockey League (WHL)’s Calgary Hitmen. He also played at the American Hockey League (AHL), before making his NHL debut in the 2007-2008 season.

Later on 24 June 2008, he was traded to the Boston Bruins. Later on 4 October 2014, Johnny was traded to the New York Islanders. Subsequently, he penned a seven-year, $42 million contract with the Islanders, which lasts through the 2021-2022 season. As per the deal, he bags the base salary of $6,000,000 in the 2019-2020 season and $1,250,000 in the remaining 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons.

Johnny recently suffered an injury near his eyes that needed 90 stitches. He was hit with a stake blade near his eye in Islanders’ game against the Montreal Canadiens on 3 March 2020.
