Stein has kept his wife and married life away from the public eyes. He is a private guy when it comes to his personal life.

According to some wiki sources, he is a married man. Similarly, he shares two sons with his wife. However, there is no such evidence of his wife & children in public.

The journalist comes from a holocaust survivor family. His father Reuven Vasile Stein was nine months old when he and his mother escaped from the Nazis in Bucharest, Romania.

Reuven was a mechanical engineer who died at the age of 74 on 15 Jun 2014.

Marc has a younger brother named Orren Stein. He grew up with his family in Southern California, United States.

There, he attended El Toro High School in Lake Forest, California. Afterward, he went to the California State University, Fullerton, and a BA in Communications in 1991.

His Career Journey

Stein started covering the NBA as a student at CSU, reporting for the Orange County Register. He then worked at Los Angeles Daily News, and Dallas Morning News before joining ESPN in 2000.

At ESPN, he wrote for ESPN.com and became its senior NBA writer. Similarly, he made broadcast appearances at SportsCenter, NBA Shootaround, NBA Fastbreak, NBA Coast to Coast, ESPNEWS, and ESPN Radio.

In 2017, Marc left ESPN and joined The New York Times, and became its national NBA writer. After working for over three years, he left  The New York Times to produce a Substack newsletter.
