Dick Dale; The King of Surf Guitar Passed Away At Age 81

Born as Richard Anthony Monsour and better known by his stage Dick Dale, the American Rock guitarist dies at the age of 81. The late Richard will always be remembered for his opening credits to Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.

According to the Guardian reports, Dick Dale passed on Saturday evening on 16 March 2019. The Hollywood industry is still mourning the loss of the legendary musician including actor, Seth Rogen, and vocalist, Kearney Nick Jones a.k.a Nick 13.

However, the actual reason for the singer’s death is not known correctly.

Dick’s Battle With Cancer

During his 2012 interview with Vice News, Dick talked briefly about his battle with cancer and diabetes. At the time, he was 75 years of age and even after the doctor’s suggestion, he continued to perform in various events.

The medical staffs even advised him to be absent on stage. Dick also added that his medical expenses were over $3,000 per month for his body.

Dick Dale Was Married Twice!

The 81-year-old had walked the aisle for at least two times. In the early 1970s, his then-wife Jeannie Monsour used to work at Las Vegas dancer with Dale. Jeannie is a Tahitian dancer in Hawaii. Together the pair has a son named James, aged 20 in 2012.

Besides Jeannie, Dick’s second wife is a lady named Lana. According to the 2015 Billboard reports, she was her manager and booking agent. Lana has Multiple sclerosis (MS) disease; a demyelinating disease in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged.

The late musician was born on 4 May 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts. His father, James Monsour was of Lebanese descent and mother, Fern Monsour of Polish-Belarusian ancestry. His family resided to Quincy, Massachusetts when Dick was very young. Similarly, his interest in playing music started at the age of nine.

Talking about his career, Dick’s musicality commenced back in 1959. He has a net worth of $200,000 primarily from his musical profession of almost six decades. Some of his hit albums are Surfers’ Choice (1962) and Calling Up Spirits (1996).
