Basso was born to parents Richard D Basso and Theresa H Basso on 25 February 1954 in New York, New York. His parents raised him in Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey. Moreover, his growing-up memory includes spending summer days on the lake in Morris County.


As per wiki, his father Richard was in the production business and his mother was a housewife. He says that fashion was always part of his family. His love for fashion comes especially from his mother and her sisters who were extremely stylish women. Additionally, he is the only child of his parents.


After graduating from Roxbury High School, he attended the Catholic University of America. Furthermore, he also studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

Dennis Basso Husband: Inside His Married Life

Basso is vocal regarding his sexuality. He is an openly gay man and has been relishing a married life with same-sex partner Michael Cominotto.

The pair married on 22 November 2011 at The Pierre, located in Central Park, New York. They celebrated their nuptials with 400 of their nearest and dearest friends and families. Well, it marked the first same-sex wedding in the eight decades of history of the hotel.


Dennis and his husband have been together for more than three decades. They decided to get married after knowing each other for over two decades.


Not much is known regarding his husband’s professional background. Meanwhile, the pair is involved in philanthropy works and has sponsored the renovation of the chapel at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

Basso commenced the industry by opening a small design studio on Seventh Avenue in Manhattan in 1983. His first freestanding boutique was at the Little Nell Hotel in Aspen and later opened his flagship at Madison Avenue in Manhattan.

Furthermore, he launched an exclusive collection of bridal designs for Kleinfeld Bridal in New York City in 2011. His recent venture includes an expansive new store on East 57th Street which was inaugurated in September 2023.

Dennis’ designs have been prominently seen in Hollywood movies. His design was worn by both Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones in “Chicago”; by Meryl Streep in “The Devil Wears Prada”, Nicole Kidman in “Nine”, and Charlize Theron in “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

Additionally, he appears on various QVC shows including Dennis Basso & Friend. He is a long-standing member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America.
