Cody commenced his career during the 2007 Little League World Series for the Chandler, Arizona team. Likewise, he also played high school baseball at Hamilton High School in Chandler. Almost seven years later, he got the fortune to be in MLB team, Dodgers at the 2013 draft.

A year later, he was promoted to the Ogden Raptors of the Pioneer League. In 2017, he went to Oklahoma City, but his major MLB debut came for Dodgers game against the San Francisco Giants on 25 April 2017. In the next following season, he played 162 games out of 163 slashing .260/.343/.470 with a .814 OPS and 25 home runs, 7 triples, 28 doubles, 76 RBIs, and 14 stolen base. Likewise, in the 2019 season, he got off to a torrid start and made 13th home run on 26 April setting new MLB records making 88 total bases before May. Surprisingly, the record was previously set by Chase Utley with the 2008 Phillies. In the same following season, Cody made 97 total bases, 37 RBI and 47 hits all established new major league records for before 1 May May, while his 14 home runs and 32 runs scored tied MLB records.

From an outstanding game display, he got the recognition of his first Player of the Month award in April 2019. Before the kickoff the 2020 season he and Dodgers agreed upon a year contract worth $11.5 million also set a record for an athlete in his first year of arbitration.
