Shailyn was born on 1st June 2003 in Caledon, Canada. She is the daughter of Maurice Pierre and Christina Dixon. Her mother Christina is an actress, writer, and producer, who now appears on commercials and TV shows. Moreover, she is a writer and producing partner of the indie film/television company, Proper Write Offs Productions.

Pierre-Dixon is of Trinidadian descent from her father’s side and her mother is Canadian. Deeply influenced by her mother, she developed an acting passion at an early age. Therefore, she enrolled in the drama program at Mayfield Secondary School in her hometown.

Shailyn began her career as a child model, appearing on numerous commercials. She made her movie debut at the age of 10 from the 2013 comedy-drama film The Best Man Holiday. There she played the role of Kelly, an on-screen daughter of Herald Perrineau and Regina Hall.

Meanwhile, in 2015, she was cast in a recurring role of Frances in the science fiction drama series, Between. In the same year, she played the role of young Aminata in the CBC miniseries The Book of Negroes. For her remarkable performance, she won a Canadian Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series at the 4th Canadian Screen Awards in 2016.
