The singer was born Kacey Lee Musgraves on 21 August 1988 in Golden, Texas. Her parents, Craig, and Karen (née Abrams) Musgraves raised her and her younger sister, Kelly Christine Sutton (née Musgraves), who is into photography.

Their father owns a small printing business, M-Prints Printing, Inc., in Carthage, Texas, while their mother, Karen is an artist. She went to Mineola High School to complete her graduation in 2006 and then shifted to Austin, Texas at the age of 18. She stands at the height of (5 ft 5 in) 165 cm and weighs around 60 kg.

The 30-year-old has a net of $10 million from her musical career since 2006. She has many commercially hit albums including 2018, Golden Hour. Some of the soothing songs of the records are Slow Burn, Butterflies, and High Horse. The Butterflies was released on YouTube on 4 May 2018, and until now the song has managed to surpass over seven million views.
