The 21-years-of-age beauty queen was born on 19 September 1997 in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.  She lived there until the age of seven before relocating to the United States. Following the move, Halima settled in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

The Somali-American model was voted as a school homecoming queen by her classmates at Apollo High School. To the recent, she is the attendee at St. Cloud State University.

Besides a sensational modeling figure, the fashion maestro stands at an average height of 5 feet and 5.5 inches (1.66 m).

Career As Model, Beauty Queen

The young model came into media attention following her participation in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant in 2016. There, she became the first contestant in the pageant to wear a hijab and burkini. A year later, she marched into the modeling world signing a three-year contract with IMG Models.

Halima ringed her professional debut at the New York Fashion Week for Yeezy Season 5 in February 2017. Meanwhile, she served as a telecast judge of the Miss USA 2017 pageant.

Halima became the first hijab and burkini-wearing model to appear in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit in 2019. After achieving the feat, Halima expressed her excitement saying,

I keep thinking [back] to six-year-old me who, in this same country, was in a refugee camp. So to grow up to live the American dream [and] to come back to Kenya and shoot for SI in the most beautiful parts of Kenya–I don’t think that’s a story that anybody could make up.

Previously, she also became the first hijabi model on the cover of British Vogue, Vogue Africa, and Allure.
