Known for his one-punch power, Cain Velasquez entered the professional fighting ring right after his college. Since then, he kept on achieving new heights with his MMA and UFC career.

Short Bio: Early Life & Family Belongings

Backed by his Mexican heritage, Cain Velasquez, age 36, was born on 28 July 1982, in Salinas, California. His Mexican father, Efrain Velasquez and American mother, Isabel Velasquez raised him in Yuma, Arizona alongside his two other siblings: Efrain Jr. and Adela.

Cain’s father left Mexico some decades ago in search of a better life. He crossed the US-Mexico border illegally and entered the States as an undocumented immigrant. Apparently, Cain’s Californian-born mother was there to take his hand and grant him U.S. citizenship.

As of his educational background, Cain attended the Kofa High School for from where he graduated alongside recognizable achievement in wrestling.  Besides, he also played football and captained both wrestling and football teams. Following that, Cain joined Lowa Central Community College where he bagged the NJCAA National Championship in the heavyweight division. Later, he was transferred to Arizona State University where he wrestled alongside Ryan Bader and C.B. Dollaway.

Career In UFC

Cain’s mixed martial arts career kicked off after he joined American Kickboxing Academy right after college. Subsequently, he made his debut on 7 October 2006 against Jesse Fujarczyk at Strikeforce: Tank vs Buentello. The debutant won the bout via TKO in the first round itself. Later, he registered another first-round TKO victory under 4 minutes against then-undefeated Jeremiah Constant.

Surprisingly, Cain’s UFC debut also ended with a TKO victory for him in the first round against Brad Morris at UFC 83. With more TKO victories under his belt, the UFC debutant went on to defeat former interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira on 20 February 2010 at UFC 110. The first-round KO victory against the former champ was enough for Cain to earn a UFC Heavyweight Championship bout against then-champ Brock Lesnar at UFC 121.

Like his other fights, the bout was a walk in the park for Cain as he laid down mighty Brock via TKO in the first round, earning Knockout of the Night honors. Following the fight, the new champion had to go through a shoulder injury which kept him off from the fighting ring for a while.

A return to the ring saw the Mexican-American champion lose his championship against Junior dos Santos on 12 November 2011 via KO in the first round at only 1.04 minutes. However, he claimed back his championship with a rematch victory over Santos at UFC 155 on 29 December 2012.

Series of injuries again haunted Cian and he was on and off the fighting ring for most of the times. However, his first fight of the new contract came at UFC’s inaugural event on ESPN, UFC on ESPN1 on 17 February 2019. The former UFC champ lost the bout against Francis Ngannou via the first-round knockout.

Cain and Michelle’s relationship rings back to 2007 when the pair confirmed their relationship a month after making a public appearance in June. Nearly two years later, the couple welcomed their firstborn, a daughter named Coral Love Velasquez on 6 May 2009.

Cain proposed to his then-girlfriend on 23 February 2010, during a romantic walk on Bondy Beach in Sidney, Australia. A year later they walked down the aisle together holding each other’s hand. Right 9 years after their marriage, the couple announced the birth of their second child: a son named Cain Velasquez Jr.
