Sue Altman, born Susan Copius Altman in May 1982, now resides in Lambertville, New Jersey, proudly calling Hunterdon County her home. As of 2025, she is 43 years old.

Altman was raised in New Jersey by her parents, James Altman and Barbara Copius Altman. Her mother, Barbara, now 73, was a standout basketball player during the 1970s at her high school in Garden City, Long Island.

Despite her talent and deep passion for the sport, Barbara often faced criticism rather than praise, frequently penalized for playing “too rough” and ultimately excluded from key games. These experiences led her to step away from basketball and pursue a different path.

After her athletic career ended, Barbara became an antique dealer before dedicating herself full-time to raising Sue and her younger brother, Frank Altman.

Sue attended Clinton Public School and Voorhees High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts in History from Columbia University in 2005. In 2011, she enrolled at Oxford University, where she completed two master’s degrees: an MBA and a Master of Science in International and Comparative Education, graduating in 2013.

Altman is of American nationality and white ethnicity. She is 5 feet 9 inches tall in height.

What Is Sue Altman’s Job?

Since January 2025, Altman has been serving as a state director to Senator Andy Kim in the United States Senate. Previously, she worked as the executive director of the Working Families Party from May 2019 to July 2023.

Sue Altman As A Basketball Player

Altman was already a promising basketball talent in high school and further honed her skills after enrolling at Columbia University in 2001. Playing as a point guard for the Columbia Lions, she made an immediate impact in her freshman season.

In her second year at Columbia, Altman earned first-team All-Ivy honors. By the end of her collegiate career, she had become the eighth all-time leading scorer in Columbia Lions history, finishing with 964 points.

Following her college success, Sue went on to play professional basketball overseas. In Ireland, she competed in the Super League for Killester, a top-tier team based in Dublin. She later joined Medical Instinct Veilchen BG74, a professional women’s basketball club in Göttingen, Germany.
