Pedroia attended Woodland High School and started playing football and baseball. Later, he went to Arizona State University (ASU) and played college baseball for the Arizona State Sun Devils baseball team. Dustin was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the second round with the 65th pick overall of the 2004 Major League Baseball draft. He made an MLB debut for the Red Sox in August 2006.

In 2007, Pedroia became a full player and won the AL Rookie of the Year award. Meanwhile, he was a member of the Red Sox World Series championship teams in 2007 and 2013. However, he suffered from an injury, breaking his left ring finger in 2012. Dustin underwent thumb surgery to repair a torn UCL in 2013.

According to his career stats, he has hit .299/.365/.439 with 140 home runs and 51.7 Wins Above Replacement. Dustin only appeared nine big-league games since the start of the 2018 season. In April 2019, he had an injury on his knee and began his rehabilitation. During a press conference in May 2019, he announced that he would be taking an absence. Further, he stated that he is not sure if he would be able to play again.
