Olynyk has two sisters named Jesse and Maya Olynyk. Jesse played rugby at the University of Victoria. Similarly, his younger sister Maya plays college basketball as a guard at the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. He is Canadian-Ukrainian by ethnicity as his ancestors immigrated to Canada from Ukraine.

Olynyk then went to Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. There, he graduated with a 3.53 GPA in a bachelor’s degree in accounting at age 22 in December 2013. Moreover, he played college basketball for the Gonzaga Bulldogs from 2009 to 2013. He stands at a height of 7 feet (2.13 meters) and has a bodyweight of 240 lbs (109 kg).

His NBA Career; Miami Heat, Boston Celtics

Kelly was selected by the Dallas Mavericks with the 13th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft. Immediately, he was traded to the Boston Celtics for the rights to Lucas Nogueira on 7 July 2013. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie second team following his first season.

On 7 July 2017, he signed with another NBA side Miami Heat as a free agent. He made debut for the Heat in their season opener on 18 October 2017, scoring 10 points in a 116–109 loss to the Orlando Magic. Later on 21 March 2018, Kelly registered his career-high stats of 22 points and 10 assists in a 119-98 win over the New York Knicks.

He has appeared in 433 NBA regular-season games (94 starts) during his six-year career. Meanwhile, he averaged 9.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 21.6 minutes while shooting 47.8 percent from the floor, 36.7 percent from three-point range, and 76.5 percent from the foul line.
