A major contributor to the U.S. Women’s pursuit team’s silver medal triumph at the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics 2016, Kelly Catlin was confirmed dead on 10 March 2019. The deceased’s father lighted the unfortunate demise as a committed suicide.

Kelly Catlin, one of the most promising American cyclist, is no more with us. The 23-years-of-age young sports persona took her life in her on-campus residence at Stanford University on 8 March; however, the University announced the incident on Friday.

The Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Susie Brubaker-Cole emailed the announcement to the student community writing,

There is no indication of foul play. It is wrenching to have to report this news to you, even more so following the deaths of other members of our community who have passed away recently. Our thoughts and hearts are with the family and friends of the student who passed away last night.

Amidst that, Kelly’s father, Mark Catlin informed to the Velo News that his daughter died by suicide. He further passed the emotional message stating,

There isn’t a minute that goes by that we don’t think of her and think of the wonderful life she could have lived. There isn’t a second in which we wouldn’t freely give our lives in exchange for hers. The hurt is unbelievable.

Besides, USA Cycling chief executive Rob DeMartini offered his condolences to the deceased Olympic track cyclist via a statement on Friday. He wrote,

The entire cycling community is mourning this immense loss. We are offering continuous support to Kelly’s teammates, coaches, and staff. We also encourage all those who knew Kelly to support each other through the grieving.
